This spring and summer, prints are back and bolder than ever. A flip through GQ or any menswear magazine and it’s quite apparent. With so many new patterns and prints emerging, an ode to a vintage vacation staple that has stood the test of time – the Hawaiian shirt. This past week I spent Memorial Day Weekend on the Hawaiian island of Kauai for the first time. It’s nicknamed “The Garden Island” and it’s for a good reason – most of the island is covered in tropical rainforest. A 7-hour hike we went on hosts one of the wettest places on earth, the Blue Hole’s Weeping Wall! I was pretty excited for a weekend laying on the beach and in the sun, but I was also pretty pumped to sport my new Hawaiian-inspired outfit from Polo Ralph Lauren on the island.
Simplicity is this outfit’s key to success as I let the Polo Ralph Lauren Hawaiian Shirt speak for itself. With it’s exaggerated island florals, there’s no need to complicate this look. The shirt is light and made of 100% viscose. It features a vintage camp collar with a classic fit. There’s a reason this shirt has stayed in style for over 50 years – it’s timeless! I’ve found that some Hawaiian shirts can be a bit boxy with “dad” sleeves hitting my forearms, but with one role on the sleeves this fit was perfect. The shorts are the Polo Prepster Shorts (in Classic Stone), and with an elastic waistband, I can guarantee that I’ll be sporting these comfortable shorts all summer. I love the 6″ inseam on them too. Most shorts & swimsuits are offered in 5″ or 7″, and I found that this 6″ seems to hit just right! They’re comprised of cotton and feature a small amount of elastane, giving them the perfect amount of stretch. The shoes are an extremely comfortable boat shoe, the Millard Suede Boat Shoe. Lined with leather, the shoes also have a padded insole. As y’all know by now, the navy suede will go with just about everything in my closet this summer and will for sure be a vacation staple. Boat shoes can be on the more casual side of leather shoes when it comes to slip-on loafers, but with the suede and rawhide laces, this shoe is anything but casual.
