While recently in Hong Kong, I took to the streets for a run to get my bearings of the city and squeeze in some cardio while traveling. Even in these colder months, it’s still my favorite way to meet a new city. I was dodging ding-dings, street peddlers, and traffic in this vibrant city, but exploring the Wan Chai neighborhood by foot proved to be a success!
The weather in December in Hong Kong is generally pretty mild (compared to Chicago!), with temps in the 60s. It was prime running weather for the outdoors! I packed my cold weather activewear from lululemon and was set to hit the bustling streets of the eclectic and lively city that is Hong Kong.
Shorts? check. Tights? check. A badass ninja/Jedi hoodie? check. I’ve been really enjoying rocking tights while running this fall. I feel a little bit like Superman, and my legs stay warm.. so it’s a win-win! The “Tight Stuff Tights” are a great compression pant if you’re considering running around any town in tights. They’ve got Full-On Luxtreme fabric (which is basically means sweat-wicking ~ good smells & freshness.), have great flexibility to them and I LOVE the fact that they’re a seamless hem. Without the seam these tights are sleek and minimal – and you can feel the difference!
Along with the tights, a piece that I’ll be wearing while exercising and not is the License To Train Long-sleeve Hoodie. This hoodie fits perfectly. It’s fitted throughout but leaves enough wiggle-room while exercising to not pull or limit your movement. The hoodie retains enough heat for exercising outdoors in the elements but is also quite breathable. I can’t stand when I bundle-up on a run and 5 minutes into it, stripping layers as I’m sweating! The Hood is light and covers my big noggin perfectly – it also looks (and makes me feel) like a ninja or Jedi who happened to go on a light jog. A zippered pocket to store a smartphone is a must and comes in quite handy if your shorts don’t come equipped with one already.
My go-to shorts lately have been the License to Train Shorts. Great as a stand-alone, I really enjoy pairing them with tights in these colder months. They’re simple and light.. but also super-durable as they’re crafted with abrasion-resistant yarn.
Some other great accessories for working out in the elements during the winter are lululemon’s OutRun Glove and their Cool Running Neck Warmer. I didn’t pack them on this trip.. but running outside in Chicago’s winter, they’re essential! I’m going to be building out the fitness section of the blog in the coming weeks and would love to hear what yall are interested in learning more about. Be sure to let me know!
Stay Risky,
– John
