This morning the was warm enough for some walks in my neighborhood, and I swear I heard birds chirping — spring is finally here in Chicago. I can not wait for weekend farmers’ markets, running & biking on Lakeshore Trail, street festivals, and days at the beach. With spring also comes ditching layers and new pieces in the wardrobe – shirts, shorts, and light washed jeans! One of my favorite donut shops in Chicago is Stan’s – they do such a good job with their branding and interiors and their donuts actually are the best. I didn’t even know I liked blueberry fritters until Stans came or that I needed a lemon-pistachio donut in my life. Anyway ~ my friend Carolina and I grabbed some donuts for the weekend and strolled about Wicker Park – one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city.
This outfit is a perfect transitional spring look. It’s simple, light, and pretty functional. I try and steer away from graphic tees, but I loved this Soft Washed Tee from Old Navy. The graphic isn’t distracting with the added layer and it matched a pair of shoes I had (these!) so I knew it’d be perfect. Denim is a year-round staple – BUT – you can’t be wearing your thick, dark raw denim in the spring in summer. There is a time & place for every wash of denim. With spring we usher in the lighter washes and play with textures and fits. These are a pair of Relaxed Slim Distressed Jeans from Old Navy. These fit great in the seat and have a more tapered leg. They’re flexible (check out my moves!) and I love the light distress details that the jeans have. I tend to be very picky with distressed jeans – I gravitate towards natural distress and don’t love when my knees are protruding from my pants. These are a perfect and happy medium – and the light wash will have me wearing them through the summer months too! For most of the country, the top layer is probably optional, but this week and the next I’ll be adding this Khaki Chore Jacket to round out the look.
What are some of your favorite spring trends that you’re most looking forward to rocking these next few months?

This is just so fun! Thanks for sharing. What camera do you shoot with?
Hey Kevin! Thanks so much ~ I usually shoot with a Canon 6D. A 50mm and a 24-70mm are my go-to lenses!
