It’s tough to stay stylish when the temps get below zero and the days are so short. If I’ve learned anything about dressing for winters in Chicago, it’s that layering is crucial. I try and ‘stick-it’ to winter every year and not whip out my puffer until it’s necessary. Until then, I’ve found that a quality topcoat has been my go-to for the season. It’s sometimes hard to dress for the holiday season without coming across over-done. Wearing something seasonally appropriate and not something that you’d wear to an “ugly sweater” party. I think that’s why I love these two-layered looks. They’re seasonal, but not over-the-top.
I love this first look, it’s modern and urban – super trim and still fairly simple. I also love the subtle holiday color pairing of the suede Chelsea boots with this Ancient Forest Topcoat from Old Navy. The coat is pretty great. It’s a classic topcoat with a notched lapel and three buttons along the front… It’s extra soft to the touch as it’s a soft-brushed wool-blend flannel. The color is dynamic as the deep Ancient Forest green almost looks black in some light. I paired it with a pair of black denim jeans to make sure the green really pops.

Here’s another simple and preppy option – something that I’ll soon be wearing to a holiday party (always bringing champagne to the party!). This outfit is classic and really won’t go out of style either. I layered a grey crew neck sweater with a simple white oxford button-down– both from Old Navy and both of which should be a staple in your closet! A light wash jean works great for the look, although a black jean would work as well. My suede Chelsea boots I’ve been rocking quite often the past few months.

I’ve also pulled together some of my favorite winter & holiday pieces and created an Old Navy holiday wish list. This season there’s fun and festive outfit options that are perfect for holiday parties and aren’t overboard. Here are some of my picks:
